Rideshare car maintenance checklist
By Tagwell Auto · Last updated October 9, 2026

The short answer: you're on the severe service schedule. Check tires and lights every shift, change the oil about every 5,000 miles, and keep records of everything.
These are typical numbers, not your vehicle's own schedule. Your owner's manual wins.
Before each shift (2 minutes)
- Walk around: tires, lights, mirrors, new damage
- Windshield clean inside and out, washer fluid topped up
- Cabin clean and free of smells. Trash out
- Phone mount, charger and cables working
- Note the odometer
Every week
- Tire pressure, set to the door placard when the tires are cold
- Oil level
- Vacuum, and wipe the door handles, belts and screens
- Look under the car for new drips
By the miles
| Job | Typical interval for rideshare |
|---|---|
| Engine oil and filter | 5,000 miles |
| Rotate tires | 5,000 to 6,000 miles |
| Brake inspection | Every 6,000 miles or 6 months |
| Engine air filter | 10,000 to 15,000 miles |
| Cabin air filter | 10,000 to 15,000 miles. Riders notice |
| Transmission fluid | 30,000 miles |
| Wiper blades | Every 6 to 12 months |
At 1,000 miles a week, a 5,000 mile oil change comes around every five weeks. Booking the next one when you finish this one keeps it from slipping.
Paperwork
- Registration and inspection dates
- Insurance, including rideshare cover. A personal policy often doesn't cover you while the app is on
- Your platform's vehicle inspection, if it requires one
- Any city permit
Records worth keeping
Keep each service with its date, mileage and receipt. Keep a mileage log too: the date, the miles and the purpose of each shift. Tax rules and rates change each year, so check the current ones and ask a tax professional what you can claim.
General guidance. Typical intervals, and your owner's manual wins. If a red warning light is on or the car drives differently, stop safely and get help.

Questions
How often should a rideshare driver change oil?
About every 5,000 miles, or as the oil life monitor says. Rideshare is severe service in most owner's manuals.
Does my personal car insurance cover rideshare?
Often not while the app is on. Ask your insurer about rideshare cover.
What records should I keep?
Every service with its date, mileage and receipt, and a mileage log with the date, miles and purpose of each shift.
