Fuel pressure and fuel pump

P0627
Fuel Pump "A" Control Circuit/Open

Fuel pressure isn't what the computer is asking for, or the pump or pressure sensor circuit has a fault.

Fix it soon

Can I keep driving? For a short while, gently. Have it checked in the next few days, and stop if the car feels, sounds or smells different. The engine may hesitate, lose power or stall, and it may not restart. Don't set out on a long trip with this code.

Common causes

  • A weak fuel pump
  • A clogged fuel filter
  • A failing fuel pressure regulator or sensor
  • A fuel pump relay, fuse or wiring fault
  • On direct-injection engines, a worn high-pressure pump

Listed roughly from most to least likely. The same code can have different causes on different cars.

What to do

  1. Don't run the tank near empty. A hot, starved pump fails faster.
  2. Have the fuel pressure measured with a gauge. Guessing gets expensive.
  3. Replace the fuel filter if it's overdue and your car has a serviceable one.

General guidance. Your owner's manual wins. If a red warning light is on or the car drives differently, stop safely and get help.
