Crankshaft position sensor
P0335
Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit
The computer isn't getting a clean signal from the sensor that tells it how fast the engine is turning and where it is.
Fix it soon
Can I keep driving? For a short while, gently. Have it checked in the next few days, and stop if the car feels, sounds or smells different. The engine can cut out without warning and may not restart. Don't rely on the car until it's fixed.
Common causes
- A failing crankshaft position sensor (often when hot)
- Wiring or connector damage
- A damaged tone ring
- Metal debris on the sensor tip
Listed roughly from most to least likely. The same code can have different causes on different cars.
What to do
- Notice whether it stalls when hot and restarts after cooling. Tell the shop.
- Have the sensor and its wiring tested.
- Replace the sensor if it's faulty.
General guidance. Your owner's manual wins. If a red warning light is on or the car drives differently, stop safely and get help.

Track this automatically in Tagwell Auto
Tagwell Auto keeps your car's service dates and mileage, so when a code shows up you know what was done last. With a Bluetooth reader for the car's diagnostic port (called OBD-II), the phone app can read the code itself.
