Wheel speed sensor
C0045
Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit
The ABS computer isn't getting a good signal from one wheel's speed sensor.
Fix it soon
Can I keep driving? For a short while, gently. Have it checked in the next few days, and stop if the car feels, sounds or smells different. The normal brakes still work. Anti-lock braking (ABS), traction control and stability control are switched off, which matters most on wet or icy roads.
Common causes
- A failed wheel speed sensor
- A damaged or rusty tone ring
- A broken wire near the wheel
- A worn wheel bearing on cars with the sensor built into it
Listed roughly from most to least likely. The same code can have different causes on different cars.
What to do
- Leave more room and brake earlier until it's fixed.
- Have the sensor at the wheel named in the code inspected.
- Listen for a humming wheel bearing.
General guidance. Your owner's manual wins. If a red warning light is on or the car drives differently, stop safely and get help.

Track this automatically in Tagwell Auto
Tagwell Auto keeps your car's service dates and mileage, so when a code shows up you know what was done last. With a Bluetooth reader for the car's diagnostic port (called OBD-II), the phone app can read the code itself.
